Tuition

• General Registration: $399/photographer

Requirements

• 15 years or older
• Physical ability to be walking or hiking for several hours in a day
• “Beyond the basics” to intermediate skill level
• Personal DSLR camera, tripod, laptop computer with image editing software installed

Schedule

• Thursday: Start with brunch, classroom training during the day, visit a shooting destination for sunset
  Focus of the day: How to comfortably begin shooting in the Manual modes
• Friday: Visit a second shooting destination for sunrise, classroom and post-processing training during the day,  visit a third shooting destination for sunset.
  Focus of the day: How to organize your pictures and keep them organized
• Saturday: Visit a fourth shooting destination for sunrise, classroom and critique during the day, visit a finale shooting destination for the afternoon and sunset.
  Focus of the day: Learning to “see” and putting composition technique into practice

Destinations

Exactly when we’ll shoot at what destinations is based on many factors unknown until the actual week of the workshop. However, potential locations could include the following:

	Abbot Lake – “The Peaks of Otter” are three mountain peaks in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southern Virginia that overlook the town of Bedford, nine miles away. Picturesque Abbott Lake sits peacefully in the valley between the three peaks, making it an easily accessible location for unique early morning or late afternoon photo opportunities.
	Our Father’s Farm – Run by the hospitable Fuhrmann family, Our Father’s Farm was the first location a CAPTURE Virginia was held. Regardless of the time of day, there are always lots of subjects to shoot around here, from hay bales and farm equipment to chickens and kittens. The property is also dotted with numerous relics from the past: abandoned, perfectly antiquated tobacco barns.
	Fallingwater Cascades – A quaint, unimpressive-at-first-glance waterfall that tumbles over the rocks by an easy trail that meanders through typical Virginia woodland. But it’s the perfect spot for the creative artist who is patient enough to find and unlock the hidden gems that this gulch has to offer.
	Gross’ Orchard – Famous for their fresh peaches, apples and simple, country friendliness, Gross’ Orchard & Apple Valley Homeplace will be headquarters for the workshop. Whenever we aren’t in the classroom or out taking pictures somewhere else, we’ll have the orchard and surrounding vistas all to ourselves for experimenting with our cameras or helping ourselves to whatever fruit happens to be in season.
	Blue Ridge Parkway – There are countless places to stop and things to take pictures of along the Blue Ridge Parkway on either side of Roanoke. Random places along the side of the road sometimes make the most interesting of pictures.
	Apple Orchard Falls – A more majestic falls than Fallingwater Cascade, Apple Orchard Falls is a great backup location if we’re looking for something more impressive to photograph. The higher elevation may also provide some variety in the color of the foliage.
	Other Locations – Whether iconic or not, scenic things to photograph in this area are endless. Depending on what we feel like, we can shoot the Roanoke skyline at sunset, walk downtown historic Bedford, hike up to the Peaks of Otter summit, or venture out to iconic Natural Bridge.

Transportation

• All transportation during the workshop is provided.
• Transportation to/from the workshop is not provided.
• Airport runs to/from nearby airports (Lynchberg or Roanoke) are available upon prearranged agreement.
  Be considerate of the dates and times your flights are scheduled to arrive and depart. Wednesday and Sunday afternoons are the best times to schedule your flight. Please submit your requests for airport runs to James Staddon at [email protected].

Lodging

• For lodging on Wednesday through Saturday nights, there is room available at the Apple Valley Homestead where the workshop will be he held.
  Sleeping arrangements for guys and girls will be separated.
• Estimated cost per night on location is $40/night, with payment collected at time of arrival.
  Price is completely dependent on the final number of attendees.

Meals

• Wholesome, home-cooked meals will be provided for the majority of the workshop on a brunch schedule: a mid morning breakfast and a late afternoon dinner.
• Some meals may be taken at local restaurants near shooting destinations.

Clothing

• Bring clothing for cold temperatures. Dress in layers.
• Average late October temperatures in this part of the country are High 60, Low 35.
  We will be out before sunrise in the mornings which is the coldest part of the day, and will most likely drop below freezing.
• Bring stuff to keep you and your gear dry in the field in case it rains.
• Modest attire is always in style.
