Destinations
This section of West Virginia may very well offer the closest access to the most notable attractions the state has to offer. We’ll explore the breath-taking vistas over the Canaan Valley, the myriad waterfalls in Blackwater Falls State Park, the historic countryside around Seneca Rocks, and possibly even the vistas from Spruce Knob, the highest point in West Virginia. While this wilderness is beautiful at any time of year, there’s no doubt that the fall foliage at this elevation during the first weeks of October rival the color and splendor of New England.
Transportation
Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Luv Shack. The closest airport is Morgantown Municpal Airport (MGW) in Morgantown, WV, about a 2 hour drive from the workshop location. While no airport runs are provided, you are free to work out travel plans with other attendees who may be flying in. Contact James Staddon at [email protected] or 203-721-0363 to make inquires.
Lodging
Lodging is available at the Luv Shack for Wednesday through Saturday nights. The entire class will enjoy the rustic, private, 2350 sq. ft. log chalet situated adjacent to a US Fish and Wildlife Preserve. Sleeping arrangements for guys and girls will be strictly separated. Depending on the number of attendees, cost will be between $45 and $75 per night for however many nights you decided to stay. Payment will be collected at time of arrival.
Meals
Wholesome, home-cooked meals will be provided for the majority of the workshop. Some meals may be taken at local restaurants near shooting destinations.
Clothing
Bring clothing for cold temperatures. Dress in layers. Average October temperatures in the West Virginia hills are High 60, Low 35 and it will probably dip below freezing often. We will be out before sunrise each morning which is the coldest part of the day, so please dress accordingly. Make sure to bring stuff to keep you and your gear dry in the field in case it rains. Visit the CAPTURE Overall Details page for more details on what to bring.
