Nice shot! To me, the branch hanging down from above and the few little leaves that protrude behind the web on the lower right side, seem to detract from the detail of the web itself. I wonder if you could have composed it so that those elements remained “outside” the web keeping it free of “clutter” so that the entire web stands out clear against the nicely blurred background.
January 13, 2015 at 8:42 pm #9281Rachel LParticipant@Dan Cope I hadn’t noticed that before but completely agree! I may have been able to choose a different angle and achieve the same photo without the branches. Good to remember next time.

The overall contrast portrayed is visually pleasing as well, with a gradient moving diagonally across the image from bright in the top right to dark in the bottom left. That diagonal “impression” is complemented well with the opposing diagonals in the web, creating a subdued sense of energy, hence visual interest.
You’ve got elements that want to make a frame on the right and left but the top is lacking; including more on top somehow (preferably another out-of-focus shape) would create a better frame. Frames need 3 (or 4) sides to work, but they just don’t work with 2. And yet @Dan-Cope is right when he said there are too many elements in the frame so you’d still have to find a way to exclude some elements.
Nice work.

January 15, 2015 at 10:59 pm #9369Rachel LParticipant@SarahLeePhoto Thank you, Sarah! 🙂 I used my Canon 35mm f/1.4. It’s my favorite lens!
January 24, 2015 at 2:56 pm #9495Sarah.BrownParticipant@Rachel L I have to say I am very impressed with how clear and sharp this picture seems to be. However I do agree with @Dan Cope, that there are too many element in the frame but over all the shot looks nice! Good job!
